KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, said the local level has been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor the distribution process of chemical fertilizers on subsidy.
In today’s meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR), she shared that directive was issued to the local level with concerned District Administration Office for effective monitoring of the distribution of chemical fertilizers.
Minister Chaudhary also urged the lawmakers in the parliamentary committee to monitor how the process of distribution of chemical fertilizer is taking place in their constituencies.
She made the commitment to facilitate if any information or grievances about problems noticed during monitoring are reported at the ministry.
The minister warned to advance process of legal action if subsidized fertilizers are found to be sold or distributed in an inflated price that designated.
Committee President Ashok Kumar Chaudhary underlined the need of policy reforms in connection with the chemical fertilizers distribution process. He pledged that the committee will also undertake parliamentary monitoring to that end.
Around 30,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizers are being annually imported to Nepal. As stated, 30,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizers have arrived at Kolkata, India on the way to Nepal.
A total of 1,250 metric tons of fertilizers out of the total quantity is being shipped to Nepal. The transportation begun today will arrive in Nepal within four days.
Remaining quantity of chemical fertilizers is being packaged at Kolkata port, the ministry stated. Remaining quantity of the fertilizers will come once the packaging works complete, it is stated.
