KATHMANDU: The government has announced a nationwide public holiday on May 28 on the occasion of Bakra Eid (Eid al-Adha).
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ananda Kafle, issued a notice on Thursday clarifying that, according to information received from the Muslim Commission, Bakra Eid falls on May 28 this year.
The Ministry further specified that the holiday is being granted in accordance with the prior notice published in the Nepal Gazette on March 1, 2026, which mandates a public holiday on the festival of Bakra Eid for followers of Islam.
Additionally, the Ministry extended its heartiest wishes and greetings to all Nepali brothers and sisters following Islam, both within the country and abroad, on the auspicious occasion of the festival.
