KATHMANDU: The crucial Secretariat meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) is set to resume today at 11:30 AM at the Gundu residence of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, following a tense opening session on Friday.

The meeting, which is the party’s first formal Secretariat gathering since the March 5 House of Representatives elections, saw heavy pressure mounting on the top leadership.

During Friday’s grueling six-hour session, five party Vice Chairpersons—Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Bishnu Paudel, Prithvi Subba Gurung, Raghuiji Panta, and Gokarna Bista—took the floor to deliver extensive assessments of the party’s current trajectory.

According to party insiders, the Vice Chairpersons directly addressed the deepening crisis within the party, demanding sweeping organizational transformations.

Highlighting the urgency for reform following the election outcomes, the Vice Chairs reportedly urged Chairman Oli to resign from his post and “pave the way forward” for a transition in leadership.

Despite the growing internal rebellion, Chairman Oli is reportedly holding his ground and preparing a counter-strategy.

Sources state that Oli is planning to initiate disciplinary action against certain top-tier leaders who have been openly critical of his stewardship.

The primary official agenda of the meeting centers on a proposal regarding the division of organizational responsibilities, which Chairman Oli had previously presented on Monday.

Additionally, the Secretariat is tasked with establishing the final seniority rankings of leaders elected during the party’s 11th General Convention in November 2025, assigning departmental portfolios, and forming a specialized team to discuss upcoming constitutional amendments.

Friday’s session concluded with an agreement to reconvene on Saturday.

Today’s meeting will see Chairman Oli himself, along with 12 other Secretariat members—including the General Secretary, Deputy General Secretaries, and Secretaries—take the floor to respond to the critical issues and shape the future course of the party.
