WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced that a Memorandum of Understanding to end the US-Israel war with Iran is close to completion.

The emerging agreement will include the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, though it remains subject to final approval by international negotiators.

Trump noted on Truth Social that the final details are currently being discussed and will be announced shortly.

The announcement followed a collective call between Trump and leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, Turkiye, and Bahrain, alongside a separate discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

This diplomatic push coincided with a productive visit to Tehran by Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, to help finalize the memorandum. Regional leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, welcomed the progress and noted that the deal will restore free maritime transit.

The US-Israel coalition launched the war on February 28, though active fighting has largely been paused since April 8 under a tight US naval blockade and Iran’s subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

While Trump alternated between threats of escalation and diplomacy this week, negotiators are now racing to finalize the remaining core issues.

These final negotiations center on the future of Iran’s nuclear program, the scale of the US military presence in the Middle East, and Tehran’s access to frozen international funds.
