WASHINGTON: A suspect was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after opening fire directly outside the White House, triggering an immediate security lockdown of the executive mansion.
A bystander was also injured in the gunfire, which erupted on the complex’s perimeter.
Eyewitness footage captured by ABC News correspondent Selina Wang showed her taking cover as a rapid volley of gunshots rang out across the White House’s North Lawn.
President Donald Trump was inside the White House during the incident. However, the Secret Service confirmed that “no protectees or operations were impacted” and that all individuals under their protection remained safe.
The security lockdown at the complex has since been lifted, and authorities have restored normal operations while the investigation continues.
