KATHMANDU: Roads are blocked in some parts of the country due to floods and landslides triggered by rainfall.

According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, several road sections, including the Mid-Hill Highway, remain obstructed. On the Mid-Hill Highway alone, traffic is disrupted in three locations.

The road is completely blocked at Oyam Bazaar in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-3 of Panchthar. Police stated that the road was obstructed when a landslide hit the Chyangthapu-Tharpu section of the Mid-Hill Highway at around 11:30 PM on the night of May 22.

On the same night at around 12:00 AM, the road was also blocked due to a landslide at Rijalbheer along the Chyangthapu-Tharpu section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Yangwarak-3.

According to the police, the road is completely obstructed after a landslide containing rocks debris fell from above.

The road is blocked in Dobhan of Yangwarak-2 as well. Police reported that the road came to a complete halt when floods washed away an under-construction concrete bridge over the Mewa Khola at that location along the Mid-Hill Highway at around 12:00 AM on the night of May 22.

Meanwhile, in Humla, vehicular movement along the Hilsa-Simkot road section has been closed.

Police said that due to ongoing road construction works on an inner road section at Chyaduk in Namkha Rural Municipality-2, movement has been halted there since May 12 owing to the risk of falling rocks and soil from above.

Over here, the restriction on operating vehicles during the night time along the BP Highway section in Kavre-Sindhuli remains unchanged.

In view of potential flooding, the operation of all vehicles has been banned there from 5:00 PM in the evening to 5:00 AM in the morning.
