KATHMANDU: Two people have died after being crushed by a tree blown over by strong winds in Thawang, Rolpa.

The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Ruju Jhakri and 50-year-old Manbuji Jhakri, both residents of Thawang Rural Municipality-2, Helowang, according to Inspector Sunil Thapa Nepali, spokesperson for the Rolpa Police. According to him, Ruju died on the spot, while Manbuji passed away today while being rushed to Pokhara, Kaski, for treatment.

The two had gone to visit a patient at the Thawang Basic Hospital on Monday evening.

While returning home after the visit, a sudden storm with rain caused an alder (Uttis) tree to fall from above the road, trapping them underneath. Upon receiving information that people were trapped under a fallen tree, a police rescue team led by Inspector Ramchandra Bagale from the Area Police Office, Thawang, rushed to the scene.
