KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has stated that the government remains firmly committed to practically implementing women’s rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.

In a message of best wishes delivered on the occasion of the 8th National Women’s Rights Day, he highlighted that the Constitution of Nepal ensures women’s rights as fundamental rights, guaranteeing proportional, inclusive representation and meaningful participation across all state organs.

Prime Minister Shah emphasized that alongside legal frameworks, raising social awareness is crucial to eradicating harmful traditional practices—such as child marriage, witchcraft allegations, Chhaupadi, dowry, and Tilak—as well as gender-based, domestic, and digital violence.

He stressed that active cooperation among the state, communities, and all relevant stakeholders is essential for the protection and promotion of women’s rights.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister underscored the need to build a self-reliant and prosperous society by empowering women who are economically, socially, and educationally marginalized.

In his message, he reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ending all forms of violence, exploitation, and discrimination against women.
