KATHMANDU: Opposition parties in the House of Representatives raised procedural objections on Sunday after Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah took the rostrum for an unannounced question-and-answer session.

Immediately after Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal opened the meeting, PM Shah requested the floor to respond to ongoing demands from lawmakers.

Following brief consultations with parliamentary officials, the Speaker invited the Prime Minister to the rostrum and announced that one representative from each political party would be allowed to ask a question.

The move led to immediate points of order from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and CPN (UML).

NCP chief whip Yubaraj Dulal and CPN (UML) chief whip Ain Mahar formally objected to the process, citing Rule 56 of the House of Representatives Regulations.

The opposition argued that the spontaneous session bypassed standard parliamentary rules and constitutional provisions.
