KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah addressed critical domestic and foreign policy matters in the House of Representatives on Sunday, announcing a review of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report on the Gen Z protests and disclosing that diplomatic notes have been sent to India and China over the Lipulekh trade route.

Responding to CPN (UML) lawmaker Padma Aryal, Prime Minister Shah confirmed that diplomatic communications had been dispatched regarding the commercial route built through Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura, adding that responses have been received.

Earlier, in response to Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC, the Prime Minister pledged that the government would thoroughly study and act upon the NHRC’s Gen Z protest report, along with the findings of all other constitutional commissions.

The Prime Minister’s remarks followed procedural objections from major opposition parties, including the NCP and CPN (UML).

Lawmakers raised points of order citing Rule 56 of the House Regulations, arguing that the Prime Minister’s spontaneous Q&A session bypassed the mandatory three-day prior registration rule.

Lawmaker KC noted that while the Prime Minister’s presence was positive, parliamentary regulations must be maintained to uphold the rule of law.
