KATHMANDU: Opposition parties in the House of Representatives are gathering for an urgent all-party meeting at noon today to counter Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah’s controversial remarks on the Nepal-India border yesterday.

The meeting will take place at the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Office inside Singha Durbar.

Nischal Rai, the Whip for Nepali Congress, sent out a notice earlier today asking journalists and media crews to head to the venue for coverage.

According to opposition insiders, the main goal is to figure out a unified response to the Prime Minister’s border statements.

The opposition bench believes his rhetoric is reckless and could mess up already delicate diplomatic ties with India.

The meeting will bring together lawmakers from across the opposition spectrum, including Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), the Nepali Communist Party, Shram Sanskriti Party, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Leaders are expected to demand that PM Shah give a formal explanation in parliament during the next session, and a few factions are already pushing to introduce a joint resolution against his comments.
