KATHMANDU: Two people were killed and ten others injured when a tractor overturned in Changunarayan Municipality–8, Bhaktapur, on Wednesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Hem Bahadur Nepali, originally from Bhiman Municipality–10 of Sindhuli and currently residing in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, and 32-year-old Bijay Rai, originally from Dingla Municipality–2 of Bhojpur and also residing in Sinamangal.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Jabegu, spokesperson for the Bhaktapur District Police Office, both victims died while undergoing treatment at Bhaktapur Hospital in Dudhpati.
The accident occurred at around 7:25 p.m. in the Kalamasi area of Changunarayan Municipality–8 when a tractor (registration number Na 5 Ta 2847) carrying a concrete mixer overturned after reportedly going out of control while traveling from Nagarkot to Jitpur.
A total of 13 people were on board the tractor at the time of the accident. Ten passengers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
Police have taken the tractor driver, 24-year-old Birendra Kumar Mahato of Haripur Municipality–6, Sarlahi, who currently resides in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, into custody for further investigation.
