KATHMANDU: Senior officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) have completed a knowledge-exchange visit to Europe aimed at strengthening Nepal’s disaster risk reduction and management capacity.

The visit was organized under the European Union-funded SUPER-II Project, led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with UNICEF, UN Women, and Handicap International.

During the visit, Nepali officials held discussions with key European institutions, including the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), DG CLIMA, DG INTPA, the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) in Brussels, and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Bonn, Germany.

The discussions focused on strengthening Nepal’s Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), improving emergency coordination and information management systems, enhancing climate risk assessments, and advancing reporting under the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Officials said the knowledge gained and partnerships established through the visit are expected to bolster the operational capacity of the NDRRMA and emergency operations centers, contributing to a more resilient disaster management system in Nepal.
