KATHMANDU: The Karnali corridor has been blocked by landslides following continuous rainfall since Tuesday.
According to authorities, several sections of the Kalikot stretch of the corridor have been affected, including the road between Lalighat and Bhautekuna in Narharinath Rural Municipality–1, the Regil section in Sannitriveni Rural Municipality–1, and the Ghatpari section in Pachaljharana Rural Municipality–4.
The road has been obstructed by landslides triggered by persistent rain at multiple locations, disrupting transportation along the corridor. More than 300 passengers have been stranded on the route, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Himbahadur Khatri.
DSP Khatri said that ongoing rainfall has prevented the use of heavy equipment to clear the debris. Although dozers began clearing operations early this morning, the task has been difficult because mud and debris have covered nearly three kilometers of roadway.
Vehicles traveling through the Karnali Corridor from Raskot, Sannitriveni, and Pachaljharana in Kalikot, as well as from Bajura and Humla districts, have been forced to stop at various points along the route.
Patients, examination candidates, and other travelers on urgent journeys have been stranded in areas including Lalighat, Regil, Sannigad, and Khulalu while authorities continue efforts to reopen the road.
