KATHMANDU: With the change in weather over the past few days, heavy rainfall is taking place in various districts including Kathmandu today.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rain is reported to have taken place around certain rain gauge stations.
According to the records of the gauge stations as of 8:30 pm tonight, heavy rain has fallen in Kathmandu, Jhapa, Morang, Tanahun, Dang and Surkhet.
The Kapan area of Kathmandu has received 51.8 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours today. The highest rainfall was recorded to be 77.4 millimeters in Bahundangi of Jhapa. Similarly, 53.2 millimeters of rain was recorded in Tanahun, 48.2 millimeters in Dang and 52.8 millimeters in Surkhet.
The temperature across the country has also decreased today due to the change in weather and rainfall in different places, said Dinkar Kayastha, Information Officer of the Department. The temperature today remained less than 39 degree Celsius in the Tarai and 21 degree Celsius in Kathmandu.
According to the weather bulletin issued by the department this evening, the weather in Nepal has become cloudy due to the influence of the westerly low pressure line in the upper atmosphere and local winds.
On Thursday, the weather will be generally cloudy across the country and there will be moderate to heavy rain in some places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and in the Tarai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Similarly, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in a few places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces as well as in one or two places in the Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Senior meteorologist Barun Poudel stated that Nepal is on the verge of the onset of monsoon, which may enter in the next few days. This time however the forecast is that there will be less than average rainfall and the temperature will increase during the monsoon.
