KATHMANDU: Authorities are preparing to bring four newly constructed bridges along the Mugling–Malekhu section of the Prithvi Highway into operation by mid-July, with more than 90 percent of the work already completed.

According to the Nagdhunga-Mugling Road Project (West Section), the bridges over Khahare Khola, Chiraudi Khola, Gomati Khola and Hugdi Khola are in the final stages of construction. Remaining works include access roads, plastering, painting and traffic safety installations.

Construction is also progressing on additional bridges over Hugdi and Charaudi streams, with foundation and pillar works underway.

Road upgrading activities, including asphalt paving, are expected to resume shortly after bitumen supplies arrive. Officials said drainage construction, railing installation and other supporting works are continuing.

The 38.86-kilometer road section has achieved 43 percent overall progress. The project includes six-lane, four-lane and climbing-lane segments aimed at easing traffic flow on one of the country’s busiest highways.

Built with World Bank support, the road upgrade is being carried out at a cost of Rs 4.805 billion. The contractor’s deadline, previously extended by 183 days, is under consideration for a further extension.
