JANAKPURDHAM: Capital expenditure of the Madhesh Province government has remained weak, reaching only 13.76 percent in 11 months of the current fiscal year 2025/26 BS, with just one month left in the financial cycle.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the province has spent 21.24 percent of its total budget so far. Recurrent expenditure stands at 36.22 percent, while capital spending remains significantly low, said Information Officer Anshu Kumar Jha.

The provincial government had allocated Rs 46.98 billion for the current fiscal year, of which only Rs 9.98 billion has been spent by the end of Jeth.

Among provincial bodies, the Province Public Service Commission recorded the highest utilization at 69.65 percent, followed by the Office of the Chief Attorney at 49.72 percent and the Ministry of Finance at 47.28 percent. The Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare reported the lowest spending at just 5.57 percent.

Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattarai attributed the slow budget execution to disruptions earlier in the fiscal year, including damage caused during Gen Z protests and frequent changes in government leadership. He expressed confidence that overall spending would cross 50 percent by the end of the fiscal year.
