JHAPA: Durgabhitta Community Forest in Kachankawal Rural Municipality-3, once affected by deforestation, illegal logging, and wildlife threats, has transformed into a successful community-led conservation model.

According to the Community Forest User Committee, active local participation has been key to improving forest management and protection. Chairperson Dhanraj Gurung said growing awareness and shared responsibility have strengthened conservation efforts.

Human–wildlife conflict, especially with elephants, has also declined after the installation of solar fencing and regular community monitoring. The forest now supports rich biodiversity and wetland ecosystems.

Officials said the forest, which spans about 195 million square meters, has strong potential for eco-tourism if supported by proper infrastructure and trekking facilities.
