KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung stated that an investigation committee was formed regarding the death of Shreekrishna Bishwokarma in police custody in Sindhuli, and the received report shows no evidence of police beating.

Responding to a question raised by Member Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar in today’s National Assembly meeting, the Home Minister shared that the report explicitly mentions the police did not inflict any physical or mental torture during the custody.

Additionally, he informed the assembly that a “Dalit Cell” has been operationalized within the Nepal Police.

Based on the investigation report, Home Minister Gurung reiterated that Bishwokarma was not subjected to any assault.

He added that the Ministry’s attention has been drawn to this matter and promised to provide updates if any new information emerges.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Member Sunar raised questions regarding ongoing discrimination based on caste, drawing Minister Gurung’s attention to incidents of murder and assault stemming specifically from inter-caste marriages.

Furthermore, MP Sunar questioned the circumstances of the incident, asking how a suicide could occur at a height of seven feet in a detention cell that lacked basic furniture like tables or chairs.

During the same session, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal also read out an official letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
