Monsoon enters Nepal bringing forecast of heavy rainfall and heatwaves

KATHMANDU: The monsoon has officially entered Nepal through Koshi Province, triggering light to moderate rainfall in several areas while local and easterly winds continue to partially affect the rest of the country.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, daytime weather will bring general cloud cover and scattered thunderstorms to the hilly and mountainous terrains of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the plains of Koshi and Madhesh provinces.

In contrast, extreme heatwave conditions are expected to persist across the Terai plains of Lumbini, Sudurpashchim, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

As night falls, the weather will remain largely cloudy across the eastern and central regions, with a high probability of moderate rain in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, and warnings of heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of the Koshi and Gandaki hills and the Koshi Terai
