Mixed weather system active across Nepal with heatwave warnings in the west

KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that Nepal is currently experiencing a mixed influence of western winds, local winds, and monsoon winds.

The monsoon system is active in some parts of the Koshi Province, while the rest of the country is being influenced by western and local winds.

According to the division, the hilly and mountainous regions of the country, including Koshi Province, are currently generally cloudy.

The plains (Terai) of Madhesh and Bagmati provinces are experiencing partly cloudy weather, while the weather remains mainly clear in the Terai plains of Lumbini and Karnali provinces.

Currently, light rain is occurring in a few places across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

This afternoon, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the mountainous and hilly regions of the country, as well as the Terai plains of Koshi Province.

There is a possibility of partly cloudy skies in Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Meanwhile, the weather will remain mainly clear in the Terai plains of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, with a forecast warning that heatwave conditions (Loo) are likely to trigger in some parts of these western plains.

Rain and snowfall are expected in some parts of the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi Province, as well as a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Additionally, one or two places in the mountainous and hilly parts of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces might witness moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Down in the plains, a few places in Koshi Province and one or two areas in Madhesh Province are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy in Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while the Terai plains of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces will stay mainly clear.

Furthermore, the division has projected a continued possibility of rain and snowfall in some parts of the mountainous and hilly terrains of Koshi Province, as well as a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
