Over 2,000 drivers penalized for traffic violations in Kathmandu valley

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has penalized 2,076 drivers for violating various traffic rules across the valley within a 24-hour period.

According to Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Valley Traffic Police, the crackdown generated Rs 1,053,510 in revenue for the state treasury.

Among those booked, 228 drivers were penalized for speeding, 117 for traffic light violations, 93 for unauthorized ride-sharing, and 88 for driving under the influence (DUI).

Additionally, the police took action against 129 drivers for breaching lane discipline, 90 for parking on pavements, 88 for driving the wrong way on one-way streets, 57 for honking in restricted zones, and 1,186 others for various other traffic rule infractions.
