BIRGUNJ: Madhesh Province’s sole metropolitan city, Birgunj, has presented an estimated budget of Rs 4.42 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27 at its 20th Municipal Assembly.

Presented by municipal executive member Jagat Sah Kanu on behalf of Acting Mayor Imtiyaz Alam, the budget prioritizes education, healthcare, sanitation, agriculture, tourism, industry, infrastructure, and technology.

Out of the total budget, Rs 2.40 billion is allocated for current expenditure, Rs 1.96 billion for capital expenditure and Rs 50 million for financial management.

The expenses will be financed through federal and provincial fiscal transfers, internal revenue, revenue sharing, land registration fees, previous cash reserves and the Town Development Fund.
