Tea industries reopen after government’s assurance

KATHMANDU: : Nepal Tea Producers’ Association has decided to resume the tea industries which were closed earlier. The Association decided to call off programmes of halting production from tea industries after the government assured of initiatives for resolving problems facing the tea export, especially to India.

The Association issued a notice on Thursday, sharing information that the tea industries closed in Jhapa and Ilam districts over the problems in export were resumed following the government’s assurance.

“It is positive decision of the government to form a special taskforce on study and address of issues relating to tea export along with the pledge of international marketing with Nepali identity. Considering this, tea industries respect the government decision and decides to operate again the enterprises smoothly,” the press statement read.

With the Indian Tea Board’s decision to make mandatory rule of ‘SOP’ while importing tea to India, Nepali tea farmers, entrepreneurs and exporters were facing huge problems in tea production and trade.

Earlier, the government formed a taskforce under the coordination of a joint secretary at Division of Bilateral and Regional Trade under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply having members from various ministries.
