KATHMANDU: The first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) generated an estimated more than Rs 500 million in economic activity across Chitwan and surrounding areas, driven by spending on hotels, restaurants, transportation, and tourism.

The weeklong convention attracted representatives, observers, supporters, and well-wishers from across the country, with up to 20,000 people staying in the district on the busiest day. Organizers estimate nearly Rs 200 million was spent on accommodation alone, while the party’s own food and event expenses are expected to exceed Rs 40 million.

Local business leaders said the influx boosted hotels, restaurants, transport services, and demand for agricultural products, including dairy, meat, fish, eggs, and fruits.

According to the police records, about 2,200 vehicles entered Chitwan from outside the district during the convention, contributing to a broad economic boost for the local market.
