KATHMANDU: The Janakpur High Court has overturned a lower court’s decision, sentencing former CPN (UML) MP Laxmi Mahato (Koiri) and five others to five years in prison for their involvement in the murder of Armed Police Force Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Thaman BK.

A joint bench of Acting Chief Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar and Judge Murari Babu Shrestha ruled that there was sufficient evidence proving the six individuals assisted in the homicide.

Additionally, the High Court upheld the life imprisonment sentences previously handed down by the Mahottari District Court to three primary attackers: Pradeep Sah Majhi, Sanjay Kumar Sah, and Mohan Thakur, after forensic evidence, photographs, and statements confirmed they physically assaulted the officer.
