KATHMANDU: As continuous rainfall triggers a rise in floods and landslides across various regions of Nepal, two major highways in Karnali Province have been completely blocked.

According to Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abi Narayan Kafle, a landslide triggered by heavy rain on July 1 at the Rijegard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has completely obstructed the Bheri Corridor, which connects Jajarkot and Dolpa.

Furthermore, police reported that the Ghorahi-Rukum Shahidmarga has been completely closed due to a fresh landslide that struck on July 4 in the Kholabang area of Pariwartan Rural Municipality-1, Rolpa.

Spokesperson Kafle noted that several main highways across the nation are being increasingly impacted by the relentless rainfall, but assured that intense efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and reopen the blocked roads.

In light of these disruptions, Nepal Police has urged the public to postpone travel on completely blocked highways until they are officially reopened, and to exercise extreme caution if traveling on partially operational roads.

Authorities are advising everyone to stay vigilant during the monsoon season and to strictly verify current road conditions with local police or administration before embarking on any journey.
