Two arrested in Kathmandu for defrauding people

KATHMANDU: The police have arrested two people on the charge of swindling money from various individuals by promising to send them abroad for foreign employment with attractive salaries.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 38-year-old Saroj Panta, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6 originally from Kavre, and 22-year-old Anil Khatri, a resident of Tokha Municipality-3 originally from Ramechhap.

According to the police, Saroj had allegedly taken Rs 1.6 million from one victim by promising to send them to Ireland, while Anil had taken Rs 2.3 million from six victims by promising to send them to the UAE, after which both had gone out of contact.

Based on the complaints filed by the victims, a police team deployed from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Saroj from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8 on Friday and Anil from Tokha Municipality-6 on Thursday.

They have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal action.
