KATHMANDU: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava on Thursday invited House of Representatives Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal and Nepali lawmakers to visit India to observe parliamentary practices during a courtesy meeting in Kathmandu.
During the meeting, Ambassador Srivastava said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is keen to visit Nepal and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nepal in trade, connectivity, energy, education, and people-to-people relations.
Speaker Aryal said he had already extended an invitation to Om Birla, Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, to visit Nepal and expressed hope that the visit would take place at a mutually convenient time. He also thanked the Government of India for its logistical support during Nepal’s recently concluded elections and said expanding air, rail, and bus connectivity would further strengthen bilateral ties.
Aryal informed the ambassador that a 10-member Nepal-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by lawmaker Bipin Acharya, has been formed to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation. He also expressed interest in learning from India’s digital parliamentary initiatives, including the National e-Vidhan Application, to support paperless legislative practices in Nepal.
