KATHMANDU: French Ambassador to Nepal Virginie Corteval paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav on Thursday, with the two sides discussing various aspects of Nepal-France bilateral relations.
According to the Vice President’s Secretariat, Vice President Yadav said relations between the two countries, established in 1949, have been founded on mutual respect, cooperation, and cordial friendship. He also noted that the ideals of the French Revolution, namely liberty, equality, and fraternity, have inspired Nepal’s political movements and democratic struggles.
The vice president thanked France for the assistance it has extended to Nepal through the European Union (EU) and expressed confidence that bilateral ties would continue to deepen. Ahead of France’s National Day, he also conveyed his best wishes, through Ambassador Corteval, to French President Emmanuel Macron and the French people for peace, prosperity, and well-being.
Ambassador Corteval said she has worked to strengthen Nepal-France relations during her tenure, describing Nepal as “a country that is close to my heart.”
