KATHMANDU: Addressing a reception organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu to mark the 99th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Ashok Raj Sigdel stated that relations between the Nepali Army and the PLA have reached a new milestone.

CoAS Sigdel emphasized that defense ties between the two nations are grounded in the principles of Panchsheel (Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence) and continue to strengthen over time.

He noted that regular high-level visits, bilateral exchanges, and joint military exercises have fostered deep mutual trust, understanding, and operational collaboration, expressing confidence that future military-to-military cooperation will further consolidate the broader Nepal-China friendship.

During the event, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming highlighted the PLA’s 99-year history, noting its vital role in safeguarding China’s national independence, sovereignty, security, and development.

He underscored that rapid advancements in science and technology have driven significant military modernization within the PLA, contributing positively to regional stability and global peace.

Additionally, Defense Attache Senior Colonel Zhou Jun reaffirmed China’s commitment to prioritizing its military partnership with Nepal across training, joint exercises, and defense exchanges.
