KATHMANDU: Young doctors, interns, and resident physicians staged a demonstration at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Saturday, protesting what they described as labor exploitation in health institutions and demanding better working conditions.

The protest was organized at the call of the Struggle Committee Against Labor Exploitation of Young, Intern, and Resident Doctors. Participants carried banners and placards, calling for the protection of their basic labor rights and a humane working environment.

The protesting doctors alleged that interns and resident physicians are routinely required to work 24 to 36-hour shifts under the guise of training and clinical education. They argued that such extended working hours have serious consequences for the physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals while also increasing the risk of compromising the quality and safety of patient care.
