SURKHET: Following an agreement signed between CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the Nepali Communist Party is set to lead the new provincial government in Karnali.

The fresh political alignment signed by the two top leaders has altered previous provincial power-sharing arrangements, directly impacting the political landscape in Karnali.

The Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel-led government was pushed into a minority after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support from the provincial government.

Subsequently, a no-confidence motion was registered against Chief Minister Kandel by 16 provincial assembly members—11 from the NCP and 5 from the Nepali Congress—aiming to form a new government led by Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi.

Addressing the 22nd meeting of the provincial assembly called to discuss the motion, Chief Minister Kandel announced his resignation.

Chief Minister Kandel’s resignation has cleared the path for the formation of a new government.

Speaker Nanda Gurung stated that the next meeting of the Karnali Provincial Assembly has been scheduled for Thursday at 3:00 PM.
