LAMJUNG: A landslide triggered by a collapsed irrigation canal killed two people and injured two others early Tuesday morning in Bhatbeshi, Ward No. 7 of Madhya Nepal Municipality, Lamjung.

According to Inspector Gyanendra Chhetri, Information Officer at the District Police Office Lamjung, an irrigation canal running from Chitikhola to Bhatbeshi breached at around 2:35 AM on Tuesday.

The resulting landslide completely swept away a two-story stone-and-mud temporary shed belonging to local resident Bishnu Dutta Subedi.

A police team led by Inspector Dhruba Prasad Sharma from the Bhorletar Area Police Office rescued four individuals buried under the debris. The victims were initially taken to the Chisanku Health Post in Rambazar for first aid before being referred to the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara for advanced treatment.

Doctors at the hospital declared 59-year-old Tika Bahadur BK and his 15-year-old daughter, Binita BK, dead at 5:55 AM during treatment. The deceased were originally from Nayu, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–1, and were temporarily residing in Bhatbeshi.

The incident also left 50-year-old Shukamaya BK and 16-year-old Asmita BK injured with internal trauma. Police confirmed both are undergoing treatment at the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara, with their condition reported as stable/moderate.

Authorities said further investigations into the canal breach and landslide are ongoing.
