KATHMANDU: A total of 47 candidates have applied for the position of Chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), according to the recommendation committee.
The committee confirmed that applications were submitted within the stipulated deadline, which ended Monday. The call for applications had invited candidates to apply by office hours of today, with submissions accepted until 5:00 pm.
Candidates from diverse professional backgrounds-including current and former SEBON officials, former merchant bankers, and individuals with experience in the financial sector-have applied for the post.
The selection committee will evaluate all applications based on the prescribed qualifications and shortlist five candidates. These names will then be recommended to the government, which will make the final appointment.
The post has remained vacant following the resignation of former Chairperson Santosh Narayan Shrestha.
Earlier, a Cabinet meeting formed a three-member selection committee led by national planning commission Vice-chairman Dr. Gunakar Bhatta. The committee also includes Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya and former banker Bhuvan Kumar Dahal.
