KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has urged all the stakeholders concerned not to engage in footwear business through unlawful means.
Issuing a public notice on Friday, it called for the prevention of illegal footwear trade in an illegal way, seeking the coordination and cooperation of all the concerned stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the notice.
According to the Department, complaints received through various channels suggest unlabeled , low-quality, and illegally imported footwear (shoes, slippers) products are being supplied and distributed in the market as well as through digital means.
It has reminded the stakeholders concerned of the Clause 6 of The Consumer Protection Act- 2075 BS (2018) which requires producers to affix label on the goods they produce.
Likewise, it has highlighted the ‘ liability of importer’ stipulated in the Act, urging producers to comply with the terms and conditions set out in the clause 8.
The Department has urged all producers, importers, wholesalers, and suppliers to abide by liabilities, terms and conditions mandated by the law while conducting the business.
“The violation of law in the business of footwear products is punishable by the Act,” the notice states.
