KATHMANDU: Presenting the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2026/27 before a joint parliamentary session on Friday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced sweeping structural tax reforms, resolving long-standing policy disputes and simplifying the country’s trade and investment regimes.

In a landmark decision for investors, the government has declared the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) as a final tax, putting an end to years of policy ambiguity and debate in the financial and capital markets.

Alongside investment reforms, Dr. Wagle announced a comprehensive overhaul of trade barriers by consolidating Nepal’s existing 11 tiers of customs duties down to just 7 tiers.
