JANAKPURDHAM: Madhesh Province Finance Minister Yuba Raj Bhattarai presented a Rs 41.13 billion budget for fiscal year 2026/27 on Monday, marking a 13 percent decrease from the current fiscal year 2025/26 budget of Rs 46.58 billion.

The allocation earmarks Rs 14.66 billion (35.94%) for recurrent expenditure and Rs 26.47 billion (64.36%) for capital expenditure.

Financing will be sourced from Rs 11.22 billion in internal revenue, Rs 12.83 billion from revenue sharing, Rs 9.49 billion from financial equalization grants, and Rs 6.08 billion from the previous year’s cash balance.

Aiming for self-sufficiency in milk, fish, meat, and vegetables, the government is completely replacing traditional subsidies with a results-based cash system, transferring funds directly to farmers’ accounts based on market-delivered volume.

Additionally, the province plans to establish the Madhesh Agriculture Exchange to eliminate middlemen.
