Nepal vehicle numbers cross 6.24 million

KATHMANDU: The number of registered vehicles in Nepal has reached 6,249,732 by mid-March of the current fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Finance.

During the first eight months alone, 281,921 new vehicles were added, with motorcycles making up the vast majority of the country’s more than five million two-wheelers.

By the same period, 4.11 million driving licenses had been issued, including 43,750 new smart cards in the current fiscal year.

Authorities also produced 87,014 embossed number plates, but only 5,186 were installed. In total, 831,059 plates have been produced so far, with 88,340 fitted on vehicles under the ongoing national plate replacement program.
