KATHMANDU: The process of bringing 30,000 metric tons of chemical fertilizers, required for agricultural purposes, into Nepal has begun.
The transportation of the fertilizer towards Nepal was initiated after the quantity, purchased through an international competitive bidding (global tender) process, arrived at the Kolkata port in India.
Out of the total quantity, the dispatch of 1,250 metric tons of fertilizer to Nepal commenced on Wednesday. This initial shipment is expected to enter Nepal within about four days.
It has been reported that the packaging of the remaining fertilizer is currently underway at the Kolkata port itself.
Once the packaging process is complete, preparations are in place to bring the rest of the fertilizer into Nepal in phases.
The government has been actively moving forward with the import process to ensure the supply of chemical fertilizers essential for agricultural production.
The arrival of this latest consignment is expected to assist in the management and distribution of fertilizer to farmers.
