KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the release of businessman Shekhar Golchha on bail or guarantee, overturning his continued detention.

A joint bench of Justices Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Shrikant Paudel issued the order while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by his wife, Seema Golchha. The court ruled that he should be kept in custody only if bail or guarantee cannot be secured.

The bench also quashed the earlier detention process, stating that investigators had sought permission to keep him in custody despite the option of releasing him on bail.

Golchha was arrested on April 24 by the Central Investigation Bureau based on a report from the Securities Board for further investigation.
