MAHENDRANAGAR: Led by the Nepali Army, the disaster management and rescue-related ‘Exercise Monsoon-6’ has been conducted in the Mahakali River at Airi, Bhimdatta Municipality-12 of Kanchanpur.

In the rescue-related mock drill organized by the Barahadal Company of the Nepali Army, Bhagatpur Barracks, a simulation regarding rescue operations and damage minimization during disasters was presented to the local community.

Major Ashok Shahi, Commander of the Barahadal Company, stated that the mock drill was conducted with the objective of informing the general public about rescue and damage minimization.

“We have gathered for the management of potential floods and natural disasters in the Mahakali River area,” Major Shahi said.

He informed that the Army’s technical team remains in a state of readiness along with the necessary equipment to carry out rescues during disasters.

In the mock drill, rescue teams from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force displayed a joint exercise alongside the Nepali Army.

Similarly, speaking at the program, Durgadatta Bohara, Chief of the District Coordination Committee Kanchanpur, emphasized that local citizens must remain alert during the rainy season as the banks of the Mahakali River remain at risk of floods and disasters.

Stating that many citizens have lost their lives while swimming and having fun in the Mahakali River, Bohara said that activities such as collecting firewood in the floodwaters should not be done by putting one’s life at risk during the rainy season.

The program saw the participation of District Security Committee officials, including District Coordination Committee Chief Durgadatta Bohara, Chief District Officer Madan Koirala, and Brigadier General Bijit Raj Regmi, Commander of the Shree No. 25 Brigade.

Non-governmental organizations, including the Nepal National Social Welfare Association (NNSWA), had also collaborated in the Army’s mock drill.
