KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep Abhishek Giri in judicial custody for three days for investigation, according to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
Superintendent of Police (SP) Anupam Shamsher JB Rana, the spokesperson for the Bureau, stated that the CIB has initiated a separate investigation against Giri on charges of fraud and extortion.
Giri was arrested by the Bureau from Biratnagar on Monday night. The CIB has also launched an investigation into money laundering offenses against him. Immediately after the High Court Biratnagar ordered on Monday to keep him out of custody during the investigation for the fraud and criminal gain case, the CIB arrested Giri and brought him to Kathmandu.
Spokesperson Rana added that complaints regarding fraud and criminal gain against Giri are also registered with the Bureau. Giri faces allegations of torturing inmates while he was inside the Morang Prison, as well as running extortion rackets both inside and outside the jail.
