KATHMANDU: A high-profile European Union delegation consisting of 22 Ambassadors and Deputy Heads of Mission arrived in Nepal today for a crucial two-day diplomatic mission running from May 25 to May 26, 2026.
Led by Véronique Lorenzo, the EU Ambassador to Nepal, the high-level visit aims to directly engage with the newly formed Balendra Shah Government and reinforce the enduring bilateral alliance between the EU and Nepal.
The extensive diplomatic contingent features representatives from a broad coalition of EU Member States, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
The itinerary focuses on key institutional meetings with Nepal’s top leadership.
On Monday, May 25, the ambassadors are scheduled to hold talks with Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel, and Minister of Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel.
The mission will culminate on Tuesday, May 26, with a high-level meeting featuring Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
Beyond state officials, the delegation will also interface with civil society representatives, private sector executives, and youth leaders.
Highlighting the scope of the visit, Ambassador Lorenzo noted that the “Team Europe” mission is designed to congratulate the incoming administration while exploring fresh avenues for partnership in trade, investment, climate action, and multilateral coordination.
As one of Nepal’s most reliable international partners, the EU continues its targeted cooperation with local institutions to advance sustainable development, education, democratic governance, and inclusive economic growth.
