Acting US Ambassador pays courtesy call on Speaker Aryal

KATHMANDU: Acting Ambassador of the United States to Nepal, Scott Urbom, paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal today.

According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, during the meeting, Speaker Aryal mentioned that Nepal has entered a new phase of its political journey following the successfully concluded parliamentary elections.

He stated that the current government is committed to stability, transformation, transparency, good governance, and institutional reforms.

He further noted that the House of Representatives is firmly dedicated to lawmaking, effective executive oversight, constructive parliamentary debates, and the protection of democratic values, in line with the citizens’ expectations for good governance and rapid economic development.

Speaker Aryal highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United States in 1947, a close, cordial, and cooperative relationship based on mutual respect, development cooperation, and people-to-people relations has been maintained.

He added that both nations have embraced and respected shared values, including democracy, human rights, and freedom.

Referring to the upcoming 80th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-US diplomatic relations next year, he expressed confidence that the occasion would provide an opportunity to review the eight decades of friendship, cooperation, and partnership between the two countries, thereby further strengthening future ties.

In light of this milestone, the Speaker suggested that parliamentary exchange visits could be organized to further strengthen relations between the parliaments and public representatives of both nations.

Informing that the process of reconstituting the Nepal-US Parliamentary Friendship Group is underway, he emphasized the need for the reactivation of the Nepal-US Friendship Group within the US legislature.

During the meeting, Speaker Aryal expressed belief that such friendship groups play a vital role in promoting parliamentary relations, trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Speaker Aryal stated that the United States has remained an important development partner for Nepal.

He expressed gratitude for the contributions made by the US toward Nepal’s social and economic development, institutional strengthening, and human capital development since the 1950s.

Affirming Nepal’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties, he expressed expectation for continued US assistance and support in the days ahead.

Acting Ambassador Scott expressed the United States’ commitment to the long-standing friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and the US.

According to Speaker Aryal’s Secretariat, the Acting Ambassador stated that the US is eager to continuously cooperate in further strengthening democratic values, good governance, economic development, and people-to-people relations.
