New movie ‘Gauthali’ explores social challenges and triumph of an unusual couple

KATHMANDU: The upcoming Nepali movie ‘Gauthali’ has been crafted around the unique and challenging story of an unusual couple.

In the recently released promotional audio-visual materials, actor Arun Chhetri portrays a character exhibiting atypical behavior, suggesting he is suffering from an illness.

His character is shown married to a very young girl, played by actress Simran Khadka, who looks like a school-going student.

Actor Chhetri shared that the film highlights the post-marriage challenges of this pair, focusing on a young girl forced into marriage despite her deep desire to study, and her partner who struggles with behavioral health.

He noted that the film aims to deliver a simple narrative on a serious subject, specifically focusing on how education influences the ups and downs of an unconventional relationship.

Rooted deeply in social themes, the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast. Alongside lead actors Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka, the movie features prominent industry names including Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Luniva Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjok Rasaili, Sita Devi Timilsina, and Laxminath Timilsina.

Behind the camera, the film is based on a story written by Dr. Bhola Rijal and directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, who also penned the screenplay.

The dialogues were jointly written by Nischal Kunwar, Neeraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire.

Director Rijal emphasized that ‘Gauthali’ carries a symbolic meaning representing home, family, and mutual closeness, while heavily underscoring the vital role education plays within the family structure.

Jointly produced by Suman Giri and Director Rijal, the film features music composed by Shambhujeet Baskota, Thaneshwor Gautam, and Prashant Siwakoti, with a background score by Alish Karki and editing by Milan Shrestha.
