KATHMANDU: Gokarneshwor Municipality in Kathmandu has urged the public to maintain high alertness following the confirmation of ‘Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza’ (bird flu) in Wards 2, 3, and 4.

To contain the outbreak, authorities are actively culling poultry—including ducks, chickens, quails, and guinea fowls—and safely destroying eggs and feed in infected zones before disinfecting the areas.

Farmers have been directed to strictly enforce biosecurity measures, including limiting visitor access, utilizing footbaths, wearing dedicated gear, and preventing stray animals from entering farm premises.

The municipality has also mandated veterinary certificates for transporting poultry and advised consumers to eat meat and eggs only after they are thoroughly cooked.
