KATHMANDU: With the onset of rainfall, the risk of dengue infection has heightened.

Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of the Vector-Borne Disease Section at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, stated that the risk of dengue escalates once it starts raining daily.

“The rain that fell a few days ago poses a threat of increasing dengue infections,” he said. “When rainwater accumulates, it creates a breeding ground for the mosquitoes that transmit dengue. Those same mosquitoes then spread the virus.”

He noted that because the rainy season has begun, the risk of dengue infection has naturally gone up. He urged everyone to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

According to Dr. Dahal, the risk of dengue transmission remains high from mid-June to mid-November.
