TEHRAN: Two missiles struck a US Navy vessel near Jask in the Strait of Hormuz after it ignored warnings from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to halt, according to Iran’s Fars news agency citing local sources.

The IRGC said the attack took place after the vessel failed to comply with instructions to stop. The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the strategic waterway, which carries around 20 percent of global energy trade.

The reported strike follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a naval mission, dubbed “Project Freedom,” launched on Monday to guide stranded ships out of the Strait of Hormuz. The mission reportedly involves US Central Command support, including 15,000 military personnel, over 100 air and sea-based aircraft, warships, and drones.

Iran’s military earlier claimed it had already warned US warships against entering the Strait, saying its naval forces issued a “firm and swift warning” to prevent their passage. IRGC officials have also stated that vessels complying with Iranian transit protocols would remain safe, while those violating rules would face serious risks.

Sardar Mohebbi, an IRGC spokesman, reiterated that “any maritime movement contrary to the principles announced by the IRGC Navy will be forcefully stopped,” adding that shipping companies and insurers must follow Iranian directives.

The incident adds to growing instability in the region, where thousands of vessels remain stranded amid ongoing tensions. Maritime experts have warned that shipping companies may soon be forced to take risks navigating the chokepoint as delays continue, while rising insurance costs and cargo pressures mount.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it is reviewing Washington’s response to Tehran’s latest 14-point proposal aimed at ending the conflict. President Trump has reportedly dismissed the proposal as “unacceptable.”

Elsewhere in the region, Israel continues military operations in Lebanon, wounding five medics, and has expanded control measures in Gaza through a newly announced “Orange Line.” Hezbollah has stated that a ceasefire in Lebanon is effectively non-existent and vowed continued resistance.
