KATHMANDU: Authorities have urgently rescued and relocated 20 infants and toddlers from the Nepal Children’s Organization’s central home in Naxal, Kathmandu, after a routine inspection revealed hazardous living conditions.

Acting on reports that the children were at risk, a joint monitoring team comprising the National Child Rights Council, municipal officials, and police inspected the facility.

They discovered that sewage water had flooded the building housing 108 children.

Due to severe health and protection risks, a rescue team immediately evacuated 20 of the most vulnerable children—12 boys and 8 girls aged between 15 days and 2 years old—to temporary protective care.

Following the incident, the National Child Rights Council reminded operators that children’s homes must strictly comply with national safety and management standards.

The Council has urged the public to report non-compliant facilities and called on local welfare officers to step up regular inspections to prevent future negligence.
